For the winter months if you fancy a day trip including a garden and heritage sites, then the following may be of interest.
All these attractions are just off the R512 and all within 15 minutes between all of them.
If travelling from Limerick on the R512 (accessible from J29 on the M7) then your first port of call would be Coolwater. 2019 individual rate for guided tour & refreshments is €8 p.p. Book in advance. 087 258 4716.
5 minutes away then is Grange Stone Circle, the largest in Ireland and in perfect condition. Entry is free. No pre-booking.
Another 5 minutes takes you to the Old Irish Ways Museum, a treasure trove of items displayed in appropriate surroundings, a cobbler’s shop, a telephone exchange, a chemist’s shop, a forge, railway section, agricultural tools, 1930s classroom, Victorian nursery, etc, etc. Entry €7 p.p. Then to complete the day, 5 minutes takes you to Lough Gur and its Heritage Centre to see a landscape once occupied by early peoples. Entry to the lakeside is free. €5 to see the Audio Visual display. No pre-booking.
